Another great Courtesy Angler tournament began May 16th launching out of the South Port boat ramp on West Lake Toho.  Sunny skies greeted the 38 teams as they headed out to try and catch the largest five-fish limit.

When the weigh-in scales closed the team of Brent Wysong and Jeff Holland took first place honors with a five-fish limit weighing 22.27lbs.  The limit included the big bass of the tournament, a nice 10.13 pound hawg.  The team started off their day in a community fishing hole in West Lake Toho along with about 40 anglers, mostly Courtesy Angler teams and a few local guides.  Wysong caught a 3lber on roughly the 5th cast with a spinner bait and then a small keeper on a sinko.  About 9:00am the area became too crowded so they made a decision to get away from the other boats and try a totally different pattern: topwater.  After using top water baits and frogs in the shallows for about an hour the team finally settled on getting out the big sticks.  By pitching and flipping the team caught most of the 22lb stringer.  Holland caught the 10lb bass about 9:40 pitching a worm on 15lb test mono and his partner was quoted as saying "let me tell you, I had just as much fun trying to talk that fish  out from under the boat and netting it as Jeff did catching it."  The team caught of flurry of seven keepers in a 20 minute window all within a 50 ft. area.  At 10:00 the bite was over and the fishing got boring.  Wysong continued, "At about 1:00pm I jokingly told Jeff we needed one more fish, but I wanted it to weigh 5.0 lbs. He almost came through, but it was only 4.56lbs."

The team of Nate Bloom and Tom Burke took second place with a total weight of 18.54 lbs.  The team caught only one bass before 11am working a topwater plug in the same crowded community hole as Wysong and Holland.  At 11:30am, Bloom and Burke went flipping and ended up catching their limit using Soft Plastic baits.  Their limit included a respectable 7.9lb big bass.

Gary & John Batchelor took 3rd place with 17.67 lbs. The team provided a good fishing story of two lost fish that could have made a difference, as they quoted one fish at being, "a very large bass."  The big bass they did manage to land weighed over 9lbs giving this team the potential to have taken the lead away from the first place finishers.  All said and done they were awarded a third place finish for their hard efforts.
